Getting a Website on Search Engine Listings in Record Time

Posted by admin on: February 21st, 2011

Once your website is up and running, the next step that you’re probably going to want to take is to get it onto search engine listings.

While it is true that it takes time for search engines to rank websites, the first step is to get your website listed and have search engine spiders crawl all over every nook and cranny to get the information that they need!

To be entirely honest, it isn’t all that hard to get on search engine listings – and the following should act as a quick and easy checklist to help you get your website there in record time:

• Create and submit sitemaps. Nowadays there are many tools that will help you create sitemaps (which are essentially just web pages that contain a ‘directory’ of all the pages and links on your website). Make use of them, and submit the XML sitemaps to search engines to get them to pay attention to you! While you’re at it, you should also put up a HTML sitemap on your website so that search engine spiders can find it, and find all the other pages on your website from it!

• Submit to SEO friendly directories. Although there are tons of web directories out there, search engines pay attention to a couple in particular, and they are: DMOZ, Yahoo Directory, and BOTW. If your website is on these directories, it should be indexed by search engines in no time!

• Get backlinks from heavily crawled websites, including article directories, social bookmarks, popular forums, blogs, and so on. Such websites constantly have tons of search engine spiders exploring their content, and by having your backlinks there, the chances are great that one or more of these spiders will find it and follow the link to your website!

With these three essential steps, you should have no problem getting your website listed. As you may have noticed, the idea is behind them is simple: Get search engines to notice you.

By submitting sitemaps, and then ensuring that your website’s backlink is positioned so that search engine spiders can find it – you should be able to accomplish that without having to wait very long. After that, its up to you to ensure that the rest of your SEO is up to scratch so that you’re able to scale the search engine rankings and command a better position.
